Project LEAP
(Learning Enhancement with AI-powered Pedagogy)

This support programme aligns with the principles and ambits of Education Bureau’s “AI for Empowering Learning and Teaching Funding Programme”.

Project Overview

Aligned with the Education Bureau’s “AI for Empowering Learning and Teaching Funding Programme”, Project LEAP brings the QSIP team into close partnership with schools to support teachers in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance effectiveness of learning and teaching. The project aims to foster students’ self-directed learning, cater for learner diversity, and advance the sustainable development of school-based digital education.

Drawing on a team of experts across different Key Learning Areas, and grounded in the philosophy of “comprehensive school improvement”, the QSIP team supports school leaders in seizing this opportunity to nurture middle-level leaders across subjects, while strengthening a culture of collaboration, professional dialogue, and pedagogical inquiry. The team also facilitates cross-domain collaboration by integrating initiatives in “Learning and Teaching” with “Student Support and School Ethos”, and works alongside schools to design programmes that enhances students’ AI literacy and skills.

In addition, the QSIP team assists schools in organising experience-sharing sessions to consolidate and disseminate effective school-based practices in AI-assisted teaching, thereby strengthening professional capacity across subject panels and functional groups and supporting long-term, sustainable school development.

Rationale

Project LEAP supports the development of school-based digital education under the rationale of:

1. Prioritising Effective Learning and Teaching

Aligned with each school’s context and students’ needs, AI is strategically leveraged to support teaching, promote self-directed learning, address learner diversity, and enhance learning and teaching effectiveness. Emphasis is also placed on nurturing students’ AI literacy and positive values.

2. Pedagogy First, Empowered by AI

Project LEAP emphasises the organic integration of AI into subject-based pedagogy and curriculum development. The focus is on exploring how AI can enhance inquiry-based learning, deepen students’ thinking and understanding, and function as a supportive tool that reinforces the professional role of teachers and the educational mission of schools.

3. Strengthening Teachers’ Professional Capacity and Middle-level Leadership

Project LEAP supports the development of learning and teaching resources through the application of AI across different subjects. Through the development and implementation of these resources, middle-level leaders are also empowered to drive subject panel development and foster collaboration.

4. Promoting Collaboration and Sustainable Development

Project LEAP seeks to cultivate a school culture that supports pedagogical inquiry and professional dialogue by facilitating cross-subject / functional group and cross-domain collaboration. Open lessons and professional sharing sessions are organised to establish professional learning communities within schools, thereby supporting the long-term and sustainable development of digital education.
